Cape Girardeau Public Schools (CGPS) is excited to announce the hiring of LaMont Frazier as the new boys’ head basketball coach at Cape Central High and Sommer McCauley-Perdue as the new head volleyball coach. Frazier and McCauley-Perdue bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Tiger athletic program and were both standout athletes at the high school and collegiate levels.
Frazier has spent the last seven seasons in Rogers, Arkansas where his teams reached the 6A playoffs four times. His success at Rogers earned him the title of regional coach of the year. Prior to moving to Arkansas, Frazier coached in the SEMO Conference, leading Poplar Bluff’s program to a state playoff appearance during his six seasons with the Mules before leading the Willard program to three district titles and a state quarterfinals appearance.
Frazier, a Charleston, Missouri native, was the SEMO Conference player of the Year his senior year (1990), a three-time state champion in basketball, and all-state in both basketball and football. Frazier went on to play basketball four years at the University of Missouri-Columbia (MIZZOU) serving as team captain his final two seasons with the Tigers. He also played tight end one season for the football Tigers, earning All-Big 8 honors.
After graduating from MIZZOU with a degree in Science, Frazier was an assistant coach at the collegiate level. He holds a master's degree in secondary administration from William Woods University and a master’s of athletic administration from Central Missouri State. He is a certified teacher in both physical education and social science. He and his wife Leslie have two daughters, Alison Lauren and Ana Laurel.
McCauley-Perdue takes over the head volleyball coaching position at CHS after serving as a private high school volleyball trainer and instructor for the past six years. She is currently an assistant coach for the CHS girls’ basketball team. McCauley-Perdue has served as the head coach for the Terry W. Kitchen Central Junior High girls' basketball team, leading the team to one of the most successful seasons in school history.
McCauley-Perdue earned the nickname of “Showtime” as a two-sport standout at Notre Dame High. She helped lead her teams to two final four runs in volleyball and three final four runs in basketball, including a state title in 2002. McCauley-Perdue was named the Southeast Missouri Player of the Year in 2003 and 2004 for volleyball and basketball. She was all-state, all-region, and all-district in both sports. Upon her successful career in high school, she went on to play both sports at Jefferson College in Hillsboro, Missouri, winning conference titles in back-to-back years. She attended Missouri Baptist University to continue her basketball career and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a minor in marketing in 2010.
McCauley-Perdue is active in the Cape Girardeau community. She’s a member of the Cape Girardeau Planning and Zoning Commission and a Board Member of the PORCH Initiative to empower South Cape Girardeau. She and her husband, Marchellu, have four children: Karis, Lovely, Marchellu Jr., and Nalaiya.
