Cape Girardeau Public Schools has formed two committees dedicated to shaping the future of the District's educational facilities. The first meetings for both the internal and external Long-Range Facilities Planning Committees took place Monday, December 9, 2024, at the CGPS Central Administrative Office Building.

The internal committee is made up of 35 dedicated employees within CGPS bringing a wealth of knowledge and insight into the needs of our students, staff members, and schools. Their firsthand experience will be instrumental in identifying priorities and potential improvements that align with the goals outlined in the District's Continuous School Improvement Plan (CSIP).

The external committee includes representatives from the local community, ensuring a diverse range of perspectives is considered in the planning process. These individuals will serve as a vital link between the school district and the broader community, helping to ensure that the District's facilities reflect the values and needs of Cape residents.

Over the next six months, both committees will meet a total of five times, engaging in thoughtful discussions and collaborative planning. Each meeting will focus on assessing current facilities, identifying future needs, and developing a 10-year facilities plan that prioritizes projects for the District.

"Through the collective efforts of these committees, we hope to develop an educational environment that not only meets the needs of our students today but also prepares us for the challenges and opportunities of the future," said Josh Crowell, Assistant Superintendent of Support Services.

The committees will help develop a plan that will be presented to the CGPS Board for approval at the June 2024 Board Meeting. The next meeting date for the Long-Range Facilities Planning Committees is set for February 3, 2025.
