English as a SecondLanguage
The inability to speak and understand the English language due to national origin or non-English speaking environments should not exclude a student from effective participation in the educational programs offered by the district.
Cape Girardeau School District has implemented a program to appropriately identify and evaluate students with limited English proficiency (LEP). Once students are evaluated, the appropriate instructional environment is determined. Students' progress is monitored to determine their readiness for the mainstream classroom environment.
For more information regarding the identification of LEP students you may contact the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education at 573-751-4212 (main office) or www.dese.mo.gov.
