Attendance

There is strong evidence to support that good attendance is one of the most important keys to a child's academic success. According to the Missouri Compulsory Attendance Law, CGPS families are responsible for seeing that their children attend school each day we are in session. A parent, guardian or custodian of a child or children who do not regularly attend school may be reported to the Department of Social Services, Children's Division, or to the county prosecutor's office. A violation of the compulsory attendance law is a class C misdemeanor.

CGPS will follow the attendance notification procedures below.

3-Day Absence Communication - Parents will be called by someone from the school to attempt to verify absences. After unsuccessful attempts to verify a child's absences, a letter will be mailed to the guardian(s).

5-Day Absence Communication - Parents will be called by someone from the school to attempt to verify absences. After unsuccessful attempts to verify a child's absences, a letter will be mailed to the guardian(s).

7-Day Absence Communication - Parents will be called by someone from the school to attempt to verify absences. After unsuccessful attempts to verify a child's absences, a letter will be mailed to the guardian(s). A school staff member will make a home visit and the Juvenile Officer will be notified.

10-Day Absence Communication - Parents will be called by someone from the school to attempt to verify absences. After unsuccessful attempts to verify a child's absences, a letter will be mailed to the guardian(s). A school staff member will make a home visit and the Juvenile Officer will be notified.

11-Day Absence Communication - The school district will notify the Prosecutor's Office. If charges are filed, a hotline call will be made to the Department of Social Services, Children's Division.

Cell-Phone Free Learning Environment

Please remember that all of our schools are cell-phone free learning zones. Cape Central High and Terry W. Kitchen Central Junior High will both utilize a secure bag called the Yondr Pouch to store their cell phone and/or Bluetooth devices. Students will be assigned a Yondr pouch at the beginning of the school year and will be responsible for bringing it to school each day and keeping it in good condition. Please contact the office staff at your child's school for specific questions related to cell phones.
