About the Program:

Medical Assistant

2 semesters - 3 periods

Grades Eligible: 12

Prerequisites: None

Medical assistants (MAs) are critical members of healthcare teams in a variety of medical settings. As a Medical Assistant student, you will learn many aspects of healthcare, including:

  • Taking patient vital signs

  • Assisting providers with exams and procedures

  • Administering injections or medications

  • Performing EKGs, phlebotomy, and other essential laboratory procedures

  • Checking patients in and out upon arrival and departure

  • Answering phone calls and questions

  • Updating and maintaining electronic health records (EHR)

Upon successful completion of the program, students will have an opportunity to obtain the following credentials:

  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)

  • Certifications

    • Basic Life Support (BLS)

    • Certified Phlebotomist Technician (CPT)

    • Certified EKG Technician (CET)

August-May (Following the Cape Girardeau Public Schools Calendar)

Monday-Friday

The morning block schedule is from 8:25 a.m. to 10:50 a.m.

The afternoon block schedule is from 12:05 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
